Lock S-Foils in Attack Position

Unlike many builds, this one was decided not with one thing in mind but many. The idea was to come up with a fairly multi-function build. It’s not necessarily the best build but it can face a variety of squadron types and do well.

First, you have Roark which provide you with one ship firing at PS12, guaranteeing you will shoot first. Get those pesky Phantom’s before they cloak. He also comes with an ion turret so that you can hit those maneuverable Interceptors, A-wings and Phantoms trying to get behind you.

Second, Cracken gives you some squad support by giving out a free action after he shoots. This is great for giving a ship a Target Lock/Focus combo for good damage. He also has Swarm Tactics to either have two PS8’s and a PS12 or Roark can make him PS12 and he can pass it off so you have two PS12’s. This is is great for when Whisper gets behind you, as you can pass PS12 back to Roark who can ion him.

Third, you have Biggs to absorb the first wave of the attack. You know who you’re going to lose so your other ships can get through unscathed. Also, Roark or Cracken can help ensure he gets to shoot before he dies when you’re facing high PS opponents.

And last, you have a tough heavy hitter in the form of a HLC B-wing. 4 attack from any range, and negating range 3 bonus die, means this guy hits hard. And with 5 shields he’ll survive for awhile after Biggs gets dropped.

All this combines to give you a lot of flexibility against different types of opponents. You hit hard, you can support yourself, you have a turret and you can shoot first.

I played this against two rebel lists so far. One was Chewie/Etahn/Blue and another Cracken/Hobbie/2x Greens. Biggs went down pretty quickly followed by Cracken. But they always took someone with them and the remaining ships were in a better position to finish off the rest of my opponents than he was. Ioning a Falcon almost off the board and an A-wing into an asteroid.

For this squad you could easily substitute Wedge for the B-wing. Would give you a PS9 and a good pilot. Lose some of the versatility since the B-wings 2 K-turn came in handy several times. You could also substitute in Porkins with Swarm Tactics and get a chain of three PS 12 from Roark.

Switching out Swarm Tactics for Wingman is another option. Cracken’s pilot ability is useless if everyone is stressed. Being able to clear stress from an ally right before he fires and gives them an action is nice. You lose the ability to chain PS12’s or get three high level shots.

And of course, Nien Nunb on Roark is easy to switch out for Intelligence Agent or to drop to 99 for initiative. Or also drop the HLC in favor of upgrading to a Dagger Squad with Advanced Sensors and a Recon Specialist on Roark.
